Romany Roots Event

the campsite begins to fill
London Trolly Crowds take a breather and some sustanance in the glorious sunshine After dark the fire is lit and exhibitors renew old friendships A demonstration of creating a decorative scroll Decorated Vardo (caravan) Decorated Vardo (caravan)
The Romany Roots event, was last presented at the famous Weald and Downland Museum in Singleton, West Sussex over a weekend. The event proved to be a major financial success for the museum, and thousands of people made the trip to visit over the 2 days.
This event can be presented by Clearwater Gypsies, off the shelf so to speak, with reasonable time for preparation and booking the exhibitors.
Exhibits can include any or all of the following :-
  • Caravans, Vardo’s, Wagons
    • Displays of the construction, restoration, highly skilled painting and decoration of caravans including Gold Leafing. Also live demonstrations of the carvings on wagons, drays and trolleys.
  • Crafts - Peg & basket making.
  • Gypsy Artists.
    • Top international Artists such as Delaine Lebas run workshops for children to encourage their artistic side.
  • Traditional Gypsy Music and Musicians.
  • Displays of Gypsy Step Dancing.
  • Authors and Gypsyologists
    • Available to trace the genealogy and history of Gypsy families.
  • Story Tellers.
    • The traditional mechanism of passing on the Gypsy history and tradition to the next generation.
    • We also encourage Gypsies to have their life story and family histories recorded for posteritory. Gypsy history is a spoken tradition and may be lost now that the traditional gatherings and fairs are being lost. We fear that this spoken tradition may also be lost.
  • Traditional Gypsy cooking on the fire.
  • Professional Photographers
    • Photographers and their portfolios portraying traditional Gypsy images and subjects.
  • Book Sales.
  • Information Exchange
    • A concept developed by ClearWater Gypsies where teams of experts are at hand from top law firms who’s chambers are in the Inn’s of Court, who can give legal advice. National government and local council officers are also available to out reach to both Gypsy & Travellers and non Gypsy & Traveller communities, to explain the statutory requirements for site provision for Gypsies.
The event can be provided to your site, the content and number of exibits can be tailored to the site size and or your other requirements, subject to availability of artists and exhibitors.
